City board sees fewer meetings as a moneysaver Bristol Herald Courier

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen in Bluff City Tenn. hopes getting together less often can save money and give city administrators the chance to operate more efficiently. The group is looking to only have one regular meeting each month instead of the two meetings it currently schedules. Local governing bodies use regular meetings to vote on a particular ordinance or spending plan. I won t say I ll miss the second monthly meeting Mayor Tom Anderson said adding the city charter lets the board make the change simply by passing a new ordinance. Bluff City s board currently holds meetings on the first and third Thursday of each month. Anderson said if the board moved forward with the proposal it would meet on the second Thursday of each month. He said the board would continue to have workshops where its members gather to discuss certain issues in a public forum without taking votes and would be able to schedule special called meetings if a matter needs immediate attention. If it s! something where timing is of the essence then we will have a special called meeting Anderson said adding he could not think of another locality comparable to Bluff City that has more than one monthly meeting. Alderman Melvin Carrier originally proposed making the switch to one meeting a month during Thursday s board meeting because he believes it would free up the city s administrative staff for other duties since they would only have to prepare for one meeting per month rather than two. Anderson said the move would also save the city money in the long run most notably by saving on the amount of time City Attorney Paul Frye bills for his services. The board will consider the proposal again at its next meeting set for p.m. March the second for the month. gmcleanbristolnews.com Daily News Weather and more from the Bristol Herald Courier News Channel TriCities.com Terms Conditions Media General Inc

My life's been basically unremarkable recently, but eh. I can't be bothered with anything , but so it goes. I haven't gotten anything done today. Basically nothing seems worth bothering with.
